6 Steps Use Your Home Sauna

Have you ever dreamed of installing your Finnish sauna right in the backyard of your home? It might be easier than you think. First, you need to research and have carpentry experience to create a safe and wonderful sauna haven in your home. Then, with some help from the sauna installation manual, you can build a safe and efficient sauna room for you and your family.

When you look through your home for the right location for your sauna, you may find that you have a beautiful backyard space that you can convert to a sauna retreat. Most sauna buyers choose DIY sauna kits that include everything to complete your sauna room. You must buy necessary sauna supplies like sauna buckets, ladles, thermometer and hygrometer, essential oil, sauna heater with control and rocks, etc.

If you buy a pre-designed sauna, you need to ensure that it is not smaller than the stud-to-stud wall and ceiling dimensions. Getting an exact fit is always lovely, but if you are unsure about the measurements, it’s better to buy a size larger and cut it to fit perfectly. Now you need to know how to take a sauna bath at your home.

6 Steps to Take a Sauna Bath at Home

Step - 1

Turn on your heater and ensure that the sauna room attains the right temperature between 150 degrees Fahrenheit and 170 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are a beginner at using the sauna, you should start from the lower end of this temperature range. After that, you can work your way up to the higher temperatures after taking sauna baths several times.

Step – 2

Remove all clothes except your swimsuit, eyeglasses, contact lenses, jewelry etc. Then, quickly shower with warm water soap or a quick dip in your pool or hot tub.

Step – 3

In the beginning, enter the sauna for around five to fifteen minutes. Then, bring a towel into the sauna, which you can use to sit or lay. As soon as you have started perspiring freely, leave the sauna room.

Step – 4

Now take a cold plunge in your swimming pool or shower. Then, relax and cool down for around ten to twenty minutes.

Step – 5

Enter the sauna room again. You must sprinkle a small amount of water onto the sauna stones to create steam bursts. If the water spills through the sauna heater and onto the floor, you use too much steam. This steam won’t affect the heater or the sauna.

Step – 6

Relax for around twenty minutes. Then, take a shower with warm water and soap. Rinse with cooler water to close your skin pores when you cool down completely; dress.

Important Note – No matter your sauna regimen, you should keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

5 Tips to Maintain Your Sauna

A sauna is one of the best and most reliable ways to rejuvenate yourself after a long and stressful day at work. The heat in a comfortable sauna room will cool down your body temperature and melt away all the negative energy that has accumulated inside you from a hard day's work. However, if your sauna is not maintained regularly, it may not be able to produce the expected results. That is why maintaining your sauna room is extremely important so that you can use it for its intended purpose.

  1. Check the wood-burning sauna heater.

To ensure your sauna is in its proper working condition, you need to check the sauna heater and its structure carefully. Please inspect the parts of the sauna heaters that may require some TLC. If you use your sauna often, you may need to replace the heater.

Again if the sauna doesn’t heat up, it may be due to the heat escaping from the wood-fired heater, which may cause a safety risk. So, you need to replace it with a new one.

  1. Check the sauna stones.

Apart from sauna heaters, you should check the sauna stones regularly. The structure of rocks will change overuse because of high heat, and the stone piles start flattening. Also, if you want nice steam from your sauna, the air must circulate between the stones.

Hence, you need to stack the sauna rocks every year. While stacking, don’t forget to clean them and remove dust and debris, if there is any, with warm water and a soft brush. Then, tap the stones against each other to check their condition. If the rocks crumble or have a yellow color, you need to replace them with new ones.

  1. Clean your sauna heater.

A sauna session may result in a limescale buildup on the heater surface. You can prepare a solution of vinegar or citric acid and water to remove the stains easily. To clean stainless steel surfaces, you need to check for the manufacturer’s instructions provided on the label and get rid of the limescale stains quickly.

  1. Check the sauna benches.

Check whether the sauna benches are in good condition and are clean. If you want to clean the benches, take water and appropriate cleaning solution, and a soft brush to wash the benches. It’s always suggested to brush along the wood grain and rinse them a few times. Next, dry the sauna room perfectly by heating it for around thirty minutes.

  1. Add a personal touch to your sauna with sauna accessories.

Add a unique personal touch to your sauna with sauna accessories like towels, pillows, headrests, sauna buckets, ladles, etc., and accessorize your sauna, perfectly complementing your style and personality.
